Meet Our Staff
Dr. O'Connor
Dr. O'Connor went to Hood College, in Frederick, Maryland. She graduated from Baylor college of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 1987. She practiced in South Williamson, Kentucky until 1993, when she bought the practice in Galax. She has a Fellowship and Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry and is well on the way to her first life-long learning award.
Dr.O'Connor loves dentistry. For her first 25 years of practice, she only went on holiday to go to dental continuing education meetings, or to work at dental missions.
She currently sings in her church choir and in the Highland Camerata. She has acted in some local theater productions. She loves riding horses, and breed standard poodles.
Christopher and Susan met in the Monmouth Civic Chorus. When a director in HMS Pinafore told Chris to "put his arm around the girl next to you." They have been married over 30 years and have five children.
They live in Grayson County, close to Independence.
Young Chris, now graduated from college, was the baby who came to the office for most of his first year!
Mission Dentistry
Dr. O'Connor has volunteered many hours to help people. She has been on mission trips in many countries, but most of her volunteer time has been spent in Virginia.
She is an adjunct Faculty of VCU Dental School, and has worked many times in the Martinsville Clinic, teaching students and sometimes doing patient treatment that is beyond the students abilities.
She has also volunteered at dozens of MOM projects for the VDA, she goes almost every year to Wise and Grundy, and has also been at other Virginia missions.
Susan worked for several weeks at Red Lake, a Native American Reservation in Minnesota, and has also volunteered in TN, and did the Katrina dental mission.
The countries she has visited to work and teach dentistry include: Mexico, Bolivia, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and Honduras.
Dental Staff
We have two hygienists, who clean teeth, Paige and Angie. Two assistants, Lesa and Terry, without whom Dr. O'Connor would be lost. There is one front desk "receptionist," Shelia.
